In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the discovery of the Sadhana of Mahamudra terma by the Vidyadhara Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche at Paro Taktsang in Bhutan in 1968, we are pleased to offer several new editions of the text: a full-color pocket-size edition, Lama Ugyen Shenpen’s two-color calligraphed Tibetan text in an elegant brocade pouch, and a deluxe hard cover with custom endsheets and full-color illustrations.
We publish several other editions of the text including the Vidyadhara’s original translation, which we use as a liturgy for our practice, a funeral edition (as adapted by the Vidyadhara), a feast offering (composed by Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche), the abhisheka text for disciples, and the Translation Committee’s more literal translation of the sadhana, contained in our source book Resources for Study, which is useful in one’s study of the practice. As well, Changling Rinpoche gave a few talks on this practice, which are restricted to those who have received the abhisheka.
The Vidyadhara created an exquisite painting of a dragon amidst a volcanic landscape, including representations of the three lords of materialism. Painted not long before his discovery of the Sadhana of Mahamudra, perhaps there is some relationship, and so we are pleased to provide a link to Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche’s Dragon Painting.
**NOTE: Although the group practice of this sadhana is not restricted (and thus Shambhala Centers may purchase these for their shrine rooms), purchase by individuals is restricted to tantrikas, nontantrika students who have studied this in a course or intensive on the sadhana, or those who have received the Sadhana of Mahamudra abhisheka. [Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche conferred this abhisheka for new tantrikas at every Vajrayana Seminary or Sacred World Assembly from 1993-2008, and for the public in Halifax, April 2012, in commemoration of the 25th parinirvana of the Vidyadhara.]
