Liturgy of the Sixteen Sthaviras
$15.00
This prostration offering to the sixteen sthaviras, or “elders,” is practiced frequently by Tibetans, particularly on visits to holy places and on the occasion of the Buddha’s birth, enlightenment, and parinirvana celebration (Vaishakha Day), in order to celebrate his bringing the teachings into our world. These sixteen sthaviras are major disciples of the Buddha, commanded by him to protect and preserve his teachings.
This compilation includes two praises to the Buddha, The Sutra of the Recollection of the Noble Three Jewels, a mandala offering, notes on The Prostration Offering to the Sthaviras, and practice instructions.
